The Chesapeake Bay watershed is more than 64,000 square miles big and like said before it goes through six states—Delaware, Maryland, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia—and the entire District of Columbia. The Susquehanna, Potomac, Rappahannock, York and James rivers are the five largest rivers in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Altogether, more than 100,000 streams, creeks and rivers contribute to this watershed. Pennsylvania itself comprises 35 percent of the entire Chesapeake Bay Watershed. Uses can range from homeowners and businesses pumping small amounts of water for their lawns to large amounts of water taken for irrigation, industries, mining, and to supply people (around 17.9 million) with drinking water.
